What To Do While Waiting For The BBQ

With the warm weather finally here, it’s time to host backyard cookouts and parties galore. There’s only one problem with that, however. How does one keep themselves entertained while waiting for all of that delicious food! Distracting yourself from the pangs of an empty and impatient belly can sometimes be challenging, here’s what to do when you’re waiting for the BBQ.

You Could Help Out

Just sayin’ but you could help the host, or your spouse, or your parents with the prep and grilling. You could set the table, put out drinks, or fetch necessary tools and ingredients. If your host, spouse, parents say they got this, don’t worry, there are many more things you could do to pass the time until your meal is ready.

Picnic

When setting the table, upgrade your dining game by creating a bohemian-chic table. Use throw rugs, blankets, and pillows for a more relaxed outdoor dining experience.

Play Games

From the simplicity of just tossing a ball around, to the more complex rules of croquet, there are a multitude of games that you can play while waiting for the food on the grill. PRO Tip: gigantifying your favorite games like Yahtzee, Jenga, and dominoes makes these games even more fun.

Washer Toss

If you are the chef of this barbecue, obviously you cannot leave your post for very long, however, that doesn’t mean that you can’t partake in any fun and games. Enjoy minute-to-win-it games, and short games with first to 5 points style gameplay. Ladderball, washer toss, and cornhole are great examples of fast-paced games that you can pop in and out of while grilling. Just remember to set a timer or use a Napoleon Digital BBQ Thermometer.

Kubb

Have you tried Koob? (Koob, Kuub, Kubb) An easy to DIY game where players try to knock over the opponent’s blocks. The first to knock over all of the opponent’s blocks can try to knock over the king and take the win. It is said that this game is thousands of years old, played by the Vikings to pass the time when they weren't doing other Viking-like things.

You Could Also…

Conversation and a tasty drink, while you sit back and bask in the sights and sounds of outdoor life is a great option. Certainly better than playing another round of candy crush on your phone. If you’re with people, chat. If you’re alone, sip something cool and delicious and see if you can’t get that weird squirrel to come and be your friend.

Runaway Steak

Waiting for food doesn’t have to be punctuated by the jeopardy theme and the rumble of an empty stomach. There is so much to do and enjoy while waiting for your delicious BBQ dinner.
