BBQ Accessory Maintenance - How to Make All-Purpose Wood Butter

Your wooden cutting boards and cooking tools play a vital role in preparing the best meals. That means that they should be well looked after. One of the easiest ways to do that is by using a general-purpose board butter to maintain a smooth and water-resistant surface on all of your wooden items in the kitchen (and for the grill).

Board wax can be a little tougher to find but will last a good long while if you find it. You can also make your own easily.

  1. In a double boiler or a large mason jar in a gently simmering pot of water, combine ¼ cup (2 oz.) of chopped beeswax with 1 cup (8 oz.) of food-grade mineral oil. Once melted, remove the jar from the water or pour the melted wax into a jar to cool.

  2. As the mixture cools, stir it a few times to ensure that it combines evenly.

  3. Once cool, spread the wax onto a clean and oiled board or utensil. Set the item on its side and allow it to dry for a bit.

  4. After 15 to 20 minutes, buff the cutting board or utensil to remove any excess wax.
