history of the SIZZLE ZONE™
In 2003, Napoleon® founder Wolfgang Schroeter set a milestone in terms of grilling: he integrated an infrared burner for high temperatures into a Napoleon® gas grill for the first time - the SIZZLE ZONE™ was born. Since then, it can be found in many models in the side burners or in the main grill itself and is now considered as a must-have in the preparation of meat in steakhouse quality.
While our grills have changed and evolved a lot over the years, the SIZZLE ZONE™ has remained pretty much the same. Because even after 20 years, the functions are still unique and the SIZZLE ZONE™ is and remains an extraordinary innovation with creative application possibilities. An ingenious addition to any gas grill!

How does the SIZZLE ZONE™ work?
The SIZZLE ZONE™ is a ceramic stones that glow bright orange when heated by shortwave infrared energy. The infrared burner gets significantly hotter than a normal burner, making it ideal for searing. This makes the crust of a steak just perfect, while the meat remains particularly juicy on the inside.
If you look closely at the infrared burner's ceramic block, you can see hundreds of tiny openings that allow the gas to flow through. This causes gas to collect on the ceramic stone until it is ignited by a spark. The stone heats up efficiently within a few seconds and then reaches temperatures of more than 800 °C with a nice orange glow. The heat is transferred directly to the grids above, which guarantees intense roasted aromas and an iconic branding. Besides that, this side burner is perfect as an additional cooking area for wok pans and skillets.
