How to Use the Fireplace Design Studio to Build your Dream Fireplace

Are you looking for fireplace design ideas that will light up your home this winter? Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered! Find out how you can build your dream fireplace using Napoleon’s Fireplace Design Studio (FDS), as well as some tips and tools you can use to inspire a new aesthetic heading into the cozy season.

Customize your Fireplace with our Design Tool

Choosing a fireplace is all about your personal style. Napoleon’s fireplaces feature so many ways to personalize them to suit your taste that it can be difficult to make a decision. This is why we created an online design tool, our Fireplace Design Studio to help you find the perfect unit and accessories that are tailor-made for your tastes. When using your favourite smart device, like a phone or tablet, you can even place the fireplace in your room as you work using the built-in camera.

Here's How It Works:

  1. Click the “Start Here” button or “Help Me Choose” button for a more guided experience.
  2. Choose “Fireplaces” for a built-in unit that can vent via flexible pipes or use a chimney or “Inserts” which replace existing fireplace openings and utilize existing venting.
  3. Now you can select a fuel type, for example, electric, gas, outdoor, or wood.
  4. Choose the Product Series of your fireplace.
  5. Choose your product size.
  6. Once you’ve picked the product, you can customize it by selecting options in the menu on the left side of the page.
  7. When you’re finished, select “Get a Quote” where you can send your fireplace design to a dealer, find your closest local dealer, email, or print your quote.

For example, suppose you select the lovely Luxuria 50. In that case, you can select from a plethora of log, rock, and glass media kits, and enhancements, ultimately creating your own version of this particular fireplace that suits your personal style perfectly!

See-Through Fireplaces

See-through fireplaces are a beautiful way to connect two spaces, adding warmth and ambiance to more than one room at a time. With independent heat controls for each room, they can be styled traditionally with realistic log sets or take on a sleek, modern look with a linear design and alternative ember media. Some models, like Napoleon’s CLEARion™ Elite, feature privacy settings that are perfect for shared spaces like bedrooms and bathrooms. For those looking to extend comfort beyond the indoors, the Luxuria™ Series offers an exclusive indoor/outdoor kit, allowing you to enjoy the beauty and comfort of flames both inside and out.

Electric Fireplaces - Not Just for Living Rooms

Electric fireplaces offer incredible flexibility and style with no venting required, making them easy to install almost anywhere there’s power. They can be wall-mounted for a quick update or built right into the wall for a seamless, custom look. This is an upgrade that’s well worth the extra effort and the help of an electrician. Some models are even designed to fit into existing fireplace openings, transforming old, drafty masonry fireplaces or unused framed spaces into beautiful, efficient focal points. While others come with a whole cabinet surrounding them for a great console or mantel focal point. Whether you prefer the traditional charm of logs and decorative panels or a sleek, modern linear design with sparkling glass ember beds, electric fireplaces make it simple to bring warmth and ambiance to any room of the home or commercial space.

Elegant, Trend-Forward Designs

Fireplaces are timeless once installed, but that doesn’t mean that they can’t also have trend-forward and elegant solutions to your design issues. Napoleon’s Tall Linear Vector™ Gas Fireplaces combine elegant design with impressive functionality. Taller fireboxes create a more striking flame display, while ultra-realistic logs and new flame effects fill the firebox from back to front, using less gas for greater efficiency.

For a contemporary, trend-forward solution, Napoleon’s Luminex Series Electric Fireplaces feature unique LCD displays with three customizable flame visuals and built-in speakers for a fully immersive experience. Multiple installation options and smart home compatibility make these fireplaces versatile, stylish, and perfect for modern spaces.

People Also Asked:

What is the Difference Between a Fireplace and an Insert?

The difference between a fireplace and a fireplace insert comes down to structure, installation, and purpose:

Fireplace: This is a full, standalone structure built into a wall or freestanding in a room. Fireplaces can burn wood, gas, or use electricity, depending on the model, and are the “original” feature in a room designed to provide heat and ambiance.

Fireplace Insert: An insert is a self-contained unit designed to fit inside an existing fireplace opening. It effectively converts an older, often inefficient masonry fireplace into a more efficient, modern heating source. Inserts can be wood-burning, gas, or electric and often offer better heat output, lower emissions, and improved energy efficiency compared to the original fireplace.

In short, a fireplace is the full structure, while an insert is a “fireplace upgrade” that goes inside an existing opening.

Where can I Install a Gas Fireplace?

Napoleon’s Gas Fireplaces can be installed almost anywhere in the home thanks to our unique and flexible venting systems. While the combusted gases need to be vented, they can be directed out of the house through a discreet and low-profile vent instead of requiring a full chimney.

Where can I Install an Electric Fireplace?

Most Electric Fireplaces can be installed just about anywhere in the home, as long as there is space and available power. Many of Napoleon’s electric models can be hung on the wall like art and are ready to use right from the box. These are perfect for an easy upgrade to your favourite spaces and as supplemental heating.
