French Toast:
- 2 packages (340g) King’s Hawaiian Slider Rolls or Hefebrötchen
- 4 large eggs
- 2 egg yolks
- ½ cup (125ml) whole milk
- ½ cup (125ml) whipping cream
- 2 tsp. vanilla
- Pinch of salt
- Ground cinnamon to taste
- 4 tbsp. butter+
Lemon Curd Filling:
- 1 brick (250g) cream cheese, room temperature
- ½ cup (125ml) prepared lemon curd
- 2 tbsp. powdered sugar+
Powdered sugar, fresh fruit, and maple syrup for serving
- First, make the lemon curd filling by whisking together the cream cheese and lemon curd together. Taste and increase or decrease the amount of powdered sugar, depending on the level of sweetness you want. Set aside.
- Without separating any of the buns from the whole, carefully cut a little of the top off your Hawaiian rolls, removing just enough to make them flat. Then, slice the Hawaiian rolls in half horizontally like you would for making sliders.
- Spread your lemon curd filling on the bottom half of the rolls, then place the top buns over to cover them. Consider flipping over the rolls so that any of the crevices will fill with your filling. Place the stuffed rolls into the fridge to set for at least 30 minutes.
- Preheat your griddle to medium-low, igniting most of the burners and setting one lower to create a cool zone.
- In a bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, and vanilla. When your griddle is ready for cooking, melt some butter on the griddle. Dip the stuffed Hawaiian rolls into the egg mixture, then move them to the griddle. Dust the exposed side with cinnamon to taste.
- Fry your stuffed French toast in the butter for 3 to 5 minutes per side, until golden brown on both sides.
- Cut the rolls apart, individual buns for a brunch-style appetizer, or 6 rolls for a whole meal. Top with your favourite things like butter, maple syrup, fresh fruit, whipped cream, and powdered sugar.
- Serve this breakfast delight with freshly squeezed and tart juices, mimosas, or coffee and tea.
