7 Party Tips for the Big Game
You don’t have to be the biggest football fan in order to enjoy the big game. The Big Showdown is a chance to get together with family and friends to watch the game and maybe show off your awesome barbecue skills. So whether you’re rooting for the Chiefs, the 49ers, or just want to enjoy some good food; throwing a party for the big game is a must and it has to be epic!
1. Preparing your Place for Rowdy Cheering
If your home will be the official venue of your big game party everything has to be perfect. Do a quick clean and vacuum of the place and remove items that you think will get in the way of the party. However, use all the chairs you have in the house and place them in front of the TV - the game and the halftime show are the main attractions after all.
2. Break Out the Decorations
It’s not a football party without the decorations - put everything related to the teams and the Big Game out on display! You can incorporate the food in the decor too - it will be a great conversation starter. You can do something simple like decorating a bulky glass with white x tapes to make it look like a football once you pour beer or iced tea in it. Try using colourful paper straws to represent the team you’re cheering for - maybe a small flag in each burger too.
You can also add streamers that show your support for the teams and small football cutouts in toothpicks that you can put on entrees and other snacks. It can be as simple as streamers with the team’s colours around the house and some cute referee beer bottles (just add a small plastic whistle on their necks and it’s all good). Depending on your creativity, you can make any DIY football decors with what you have at home.
3. Have Drinks on Hand
If you think football parties are just for sports and snacks, you’re wrong. Every party needs a good selection of beer. Consider juices, pop, and iced tea so there is something for everyone.
While it’s important to have an abundance of drinks, consider getting kegs or jugs instead of going for bottles and individual boxes. This will help keep your house tidy and better for the environment.
4. Spread the Appetizers Around
Know what your guests’ dietary restrictions are before deciding on what food to serve. Ask them beforehand if they can eat meat, pork, seafood, etc, so you won’t have a sour-faced guest at the party. It’s always fail-safe to prepare a variety of appetizers - some common finger foods that complete every sports viewing include; pigs in a blanket, egg rolls, chicken tenders, fish fingers, devilled eggs, tofu snacks, and vegan dips for everyone.
If you don’t have time to cook many appetizers, you can always stick to various tortilla chips with a variety of dips to build your own nachos. For that gourmet finish, dump those tortilla chips on an oven-safe tray and top them with four kinds of cheese and bake until gooey.
Your guests are sure to be happy with the selection you’ve provided!
5. Hit Up the Barbecue
There’s no better chance to show off your grilling skills than at a party for the big game. Cooking up some premium cuts on the barbecue will be a hit. Put a variety of meat on the grill and serve it up with finesse. The best way to flavour your meats would be the typical combination of salt and pepper, or you can get creative and marinate them with special herbs for that wow factor. Cheering for teams can make you hungry, so don’t be afraid to go all out! Go for the classic burgers so it’s easier to eat, or try sausages with a side of potato salad. Grilled delicacies that are greasy and meaty are sure to energize your guests.
6. Don't Forget the Party Games
Get creative and make fun games (relating to football). All that food needs to be burned off and it can’t be done without some fun activities. Games are also great to play during commercial breaks! Try the big game commercial bingo for some entertainment or maybe a field ring toss for everyone to enjoy. You can spice it up and add some prizes to win as well!
7. Finally, Send Everyone Home Safely
The big game doesn’t end with the party, some stay for drinks and goof off even more after the game ends. Ensure that everyone who drives is sober and those who don’t have a way to get home. After all, football barbecue parties are way more fun when everyone is safe!
